Can you play as non-Roxas characters without linking to other DS's?

Yippe! I don't want to have to link with other people to be Demyx, Xigbar, and Lexaeus.
How is it graphics wise, I mean, for a DS game? I saw it had pretty bad graphics on the video review, but a lot of it may have been my computer screen.

I like the game. The customization in a fighting style is really in depth and creative, I like it a lot.
