You don't have to worry about what happened to Bowser. He always comes back in the sequels. But like usual, Mario completely owned him in the face, this time in the center of the universe.

He tricked Bowser into jumping into pools of lava, and once he was hurt you attacked him. And repeat.

Even though it's reminiscent to the first Mario games where you had to drop him in the lava, wasn't there a game where Bowser was sitting in a lava jacuzzi?

Did Bowser explode along with Koopa Kid?

Yes, In Super Mario Sunshine Bowser did sit in a tub of magma. But he was also like thirty times bigger than normal, so let's just say Bowsers's screwed up.

I thought sunshine was better than super mario galaxy-- galaxy just didnt challenge me much, and I beat mario mode in.... a week?

I agree. Galaxy has better graphics than sunshine, though, but that's because of it coming out later. I like Sunshine alot. It's the game that introduced Koopa Kid.
