Borderlands

This game may warrant a sub-forum, however this topic will do for now. Discuss the Co-op RPS (role-playing shooter) here.
Heartless Banryx

Not much to discuss. Perhaps we should wait for the game to come out.
Lord Duality

NO!!!!

It looks like a beautiful and wonderful game that we should worship!
Heartless Banryx

It looks OK in my opinion, I don't think it'll be as great as everyone's saying though.
Lord Duality

Chances are it won't!
Heartless Banryx

Yeah, plus it looks more FPSey than RPGish.
Dread Abyss

There is actually quite a bit we can discuss. I found a lot about the game recently, such as that there will be 12 vehicles in the game and that you can choose to duel your teammates online. Mordecai vs. Mordecai, who will win?

I don't think we should worship it... I'm looking forward to the game, but I doubt it'll be my favorite game ever. Maybe it'll reach my top five. Also, it is very much more of a first-person shooter than role playing game, unlike Fallout 3.
General Ceyrox

Here are my pros and cons so far.

Pros: Lilith and Brick have cool voices, it has an incredible amount of missions, over 3,000,000 DIFFERENT guns, supposedly zero loading time, vehicle customization, leveling up, infinite vehicle ammo, a large environment, cities, and, of course, four player co-op.

Cons: The game looks a little more FPS than RPG, the game has somewhat cartoony graphics, but that's livable, excessive gore (And I can't stress that enough), Randomized environment and creatures, and the use of ammo. (I dislike ammo)

But I will certainly get it if I can, hopefully I can convince my mom.
Heartless Banryx

Yeah.
General Ceyrox

Don't spam fool! Any new news Abyss?

You can also customize grenades, players aren't tethered together, there are 150 variations of enemies, you bring loot to your character by holding down a button*, and the inventory is similar to Oblivion's.

@Cons: It is definately more FPS than RPG, though that's better than Fallout 3's more RPG than FPS. The cartoony graphics are fun! However, I understand what you mean. You hit the mark with excessive gore. Randomized environment and creatures could go either way, I suppose. Ammo can be annoying, but at least it makes things more challenging. At least Roland can replenish his ammo as well as his teamates' ammo.

*Like in Metroid Prime.
General Ceyrox

Is Borderlands for the Xbox 360 too?

And you're right about ammo, personally I'd prefer it to no ammo, I just do find it annoying. I think it kind of goes hand in hand with the more FPS than RPG part. And I prefer more RPG to FPS. And that thing about Fallout 3, it wasn't supposed to be an FPS. It was supposed to be very RPGish.

Customizable Grenades! More like customizable awesome! You can customize vehicles... right?
Heartless Banryx

Metroid Prime just proves that FPS can be made to be fun.

So I'm just gonna wait for the game to see if it works out well.
Dread Abyss

Xbox 360 and PC too. Freeze might get the game for the PC if his parents allow him.

Replenishing supplies of certain items can be annoying in games, especially when your weapon relies on ammo. Luckily the characters have their abilities to help them kill enemies; Lilith's phasewalk kills enemies that are near her when she deactivates it, Mordecai's Bloodwing can kill enemies, Brick's fists, and Roland's turret (plus it can replenish ammo!). I'm definately going to feed Roland's support skill tree so that I can replenish the team's ammo.

Customizable grenades, customizable characters, and certain customizable aspects for the characters. I don't know how in depth the customization is, but it still seems fascinating.
General Ceyrox

Well, I actually am starting to want it less and less. The graphics are just okay, it's way to gorey (I doubt my parents would even let me get it), it's to FPSish, it just doesn't look too fun. I'm undecided...
Heartless Banryx

I hope there is some exploring action to it. By which I mean hidden weapons or side-puzzles.
General Ceyrox

Yes actually. Of the 140 missions (Or close to that) 120 are sidequests.
Dread Abyss

Actually it's 130 missions and 100 of them are side-quests.

I think the graphics are pretty good and the animation style is pretty interesting. I still want it, but I'm not as excited as when I first heard about the game. Here's a new video I found.
General Ceyrox

I agree. The cartoon style graphics have grown on me, I now prefer them to normal. I also am really excited about the fact that it has so much to it!
NS_Venom

Leave it to Abyss to get me hooked on PS3 games. I'm curious though. When it meant 4 player co-op, did it mean its kind of like Resistance 2, where people can help you beat the story? If so I need to add you to my "Friends" Abyss. (I already got Banryx/Ceyrox.)
Dread Abyss

Fantastic. I'm oozing with drippy satisfaction.

Ceyrox, I'm glad you're looking forward to it again, perhaps you'll get the zombie DLC. Anyway, the 4 player co-op allows players to join each other in the campaign and do quests/free roam together. It's not splitscreen and there's no tether between players. You retain all of your data, but you can redo a quest you've already done by joining the session of someone that hadn't done it yet. People can drop in and out without affecting the world, however the difficulty increases with the number of people. The first review criticized that, but I think it's a good thing.
NS_Venom

Agreed, its boring if the difficulty doesn't change when you play with a friend. My cousin and I almost beat Resistance: Fall of Man with little or no trouble. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game. Perhaps I'll get it for christmas...Wait, it does come out this october right? (Least I thought I heard the guy say that in the clip.)
General Ceyrox

Is the cooperative only online, or can you and a friend play on the same system together?
Dread Abyss

It's coming out in four days, three by the 17th. There's splitscreen 2 player co-op for people playing on the same system and I think you can do versus with a friend too.

By the way I found out that there are special guns that regenerate ammo, though they do it slowly, and there are guns that have infinite ammo (dove pistol).
NS_Venom

Problems solved. I want the automatic pistol that sets people on fire.
Dread Abyss

Indeed. I want an explosive shotgun with a half-second reloading time. Explosive weapons sound like they should be fun, especially when trying out headshots.
NS_Venom

Sweeeet. There are pistols that fire rockets right?
Dread Abyss

Yes, I know that for sure. There's also a rifle-shotgun mix.
NS_Venom

Army already has it, I'm not impressed. Um, what about an automatic sniper rifle, little or no reload time, fires rockets or some other effect like fire, ice, etc.?
General Ceyrox

I'm hoping for a machine gun, that's elemental. Fast reloading, accurate, and quiet. Preferably ice, but fire, acid, or electricity would be interesting.
NS_Venom

I already ha...I mean, yeah that would be cool.
Dread Abyss

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any frost/ice elemental effects on guns. It's surprising there isn't, but I'm content that there are elemental effects at all. I heard that some people have already bought the game, but I doubted it.

There can be an automatic rifle with a half-second reload rate, but I don't know if it could fire rockets. Though it is possible. The effect that causes bullets to explode after they're shot would be great for a sniper's weapon.
NS_Venom

Trust me, they probably have. Some people can get things early. *coughcoughlittleMaxcoughcough"
Dread Abyss

Huh. Well, where might one inquire as to where these items are sold? Did Army tell you where he got Borderlands?
NS_Venom

Lol, I meant the army. You basically need to know people, thats all I can tell you.
Dread Abyss

Yes, something felt amiss!
For some reason I'm less excited for Borderlands today than I was yesterday. It's probably anxiety... and insanity.
General Ceyrox

I'm starting to really want it. Now that my allowance has been boosted, I can get it in two weeks tops. And in the meantime I have Uncharted 2 to keep me busy.
Dread Abyss

Alright, well I'll be getting Borderlands tomorrow and I'll wait for Uncharted 2. When we go online together I should probably join your game so we can do quests appropriate to your level.
General Ceyrox

Yeah, I just read the review. While they mentioned it has many guns, I'm surprised they never mentioned just how many.
Dread Abyss

87 bajillion, there are 87 bajillion guns.

I thought the review was good, but the score just didn't feel high enough when compared to other first-person shooters.
NS_Venom

At least you guys get allowances...I have to wait for Christmas money from my family. (I don't think my parents are going to get me anything this year since they already paid like 8,000 dollars for me to head to Japan.)
General Ceyrox

Why are you paying 8,000 dollars to go to Japan! Are you flying first class on Airforce 1!?

I agree about the score, It's surprisingly low. I mean, the game clearly has alot more in some areas, and less in others. I definatly think it should be given a higher score.

Another game I think should have a higher score is Elder Scrolls IV, that's one of the best games I ever did play.
Lord Duality

I payed a couple thousand to go to Africa for a few weeks. That included tourist attractions. He is going to be there for a month, bout twice as long. And considering how much better yen is when stacked against the tanzanian shilling, you can see that 8000 dollars is fine if you want to see the sights.
General Ceyrox

I still think it's a bit much, but if he's staying there for a month it makes sense.
Dread Abyss

Ach so.
Borderlands is a really fun game, but I don't like how certain missions have you feel totally superior to the enemies only to be incredibly inferior to the enemies in the next mission. I'm currently in a mission that I just don't want to do right now because there are turrets that kill me in one shot and shoot at me whenever there's nothing between us (and this area is large with many buildings so I can't see the turret until the bullets whiz past my head). The other missions I have are pretty basic so I'd rather do them in co-op. However, I've noticed that bosses are tough, but they aren't excessively powerful. Bosses are fun because they keep you on your toes, especially bosses like Skagzilla, who you can actually fight as many times as you want, and Sledge.
General Ceyrox

We got Borderlands! That game is so awesome! Abyss, we must play with you! You may have to backtrack to where we are in the story, but do you really care too much? The cooperative element is so fun. The arena is cool, you can heal your teamate if you didn't know, and you can use Roland's (That's me) turret to heal your friends.
Dread Abyss

Sweet, you finally got it! Alright, I'm looking forward to playing some of the old bosses again and I can finally give you two the shotguns and Eridian gun I have! I haven't played co-op yet, so I'm really looking forward to it. What level are the two of you and what guns are you two specializing in?
General Ceyrox

Borderlands still remains amazing. I'm clost to beating it, I think, though so far my favorite boss is Mothrakk. The Rakk Hive might have been better, but I never got a chance to fight him. I'm specializing in Combat Rifles and SMGs/Snipers. I can't wait to find more arenas, I hope there's one with vehicular combat.

I think Abyss will agree with me, but aside from the first cutscene(awesome by the way), the game extremely lacks story. I really like story in a game, and so far Borderlands may have the least story I've ever seen in a game. Yet, I still love the game despite that, which really says something about the gameplay. Though (I watched it on youtube), the ending was more than a little disappointing.
Dread Abyss

The arenas are really fun, though it's too tempting to screen peek while playing on a single PS3. The arenas are fun, however it's irritating when people simply kill you in one shot. Mothrakk is probably my favorite boss too, or at least he is on co-op. He took time and strategy, but we burned that "foo."

Borderlands is a fun game and that's how it is. There are a lot of funny moments and the story is fun, but it would be nice if you got to know the characters a bit more than their tiny backgrounds and various violent remarks. Gameplay first, story second. Nonetheless, the game is very funny at times and the ending cutscene, though rather short, was hilarious.
Baron Loki

Abyss, you shall be inviting me and Duality to your house and showing us Borderlands or you will be being HADOKENED!!!!!
Dread Abyss

Ah, well I don't want you to HADOKEN me. If you both came over, however, we'd have to take turns playing seeing as Borderlands is only co-op offline. I'm free this weekend, so do you two want to set a date?
Lord Duality

Killzone comes to mind...
Dread Abyss

Ah, I thought it was a new rule. Excellent.
Lord Duality

Not free this weekend, going mudcaving.

However...  I can see where I have an opening.
Dread Abyss

Alright, well I think I'm busy next weekend due to moving so maybe the week after. What's mudcaving?

On topic: I can't get the idea of Brick's sister out of my head. This morning I imagined her riding a tricycle with a gun attached to it.
Baron Loki

I was kidding, but sure!  I'M not complaining!
Dread Abyss

You were? Well as long as you aren't complaining... Also, turns out I'm not busy next week (as far as I know) seeing as we aren't moving until December eleventh. Since that was off topic I suppose I'll say something on topic as well. Has anyone bought ACII yet?
General Ceyrox

I see ES has the game, how is it ES? (Wait for no response.)

I got the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, and while unfortunately the main story was incredibly short, the various side quests keep it interesting. Also the claptrap there is by far the funniest in the game, saying things like "Hey, hey, I pooped right where you're standing!", "That was intense, I'm sure glad I'm not made of tasty flesh like you!", and who could forget, "I WILL LITERALLY MURDER ANYONE YOU WANT ME TO IF YOU UNTIE ME! You know I never liked that Markus..."
Dread Abyss

That poor lovable scamp! Could you untie him?

I think I'm going to play Borderlands more from now on because, one, ES has it; two, the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned; and three, booking it.
NS_Venom

Its fun. I enjoy a good, challenging game, especially with humor. Claptrap is really funny, so I'll have to download Dr. Ned. As I said in Clan Discussions, thanks for the help. Though I must tell you to slow down a bit while driving Ceyrox, I had the worst luck yesterday. First, I got caught in a tree, then I flipped over about three times, and finally wound up in a bandit base somewhere...

(Btw, I will not be getting ACII. )
Dread Abyss

Ceyrox is probably a better driver than I am. I often run over other people's vehicles or I pretend to wait for a person who wants to get into the vehicle, but then I drive forward a little bit and wait until the person gets a little closer, and then drive away. Kind'a like those "Messing With Sasquatch" commercials, if you catch my drift. Sorry about ACII.

On Topic: You could download The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned by sharing the PSN account of someone who's already downloaded it.
Lord Storms

Umm...

I forget what I was going to post here...

Uh...

Well, is this game similar to the Rachet & Clank series? It sounds similar.
NS_Venom

I just about fell for it every time...

Hate to say it, but no.
